Newbie in Louisiana

From: S. Zorzi (szorzi@cox.net) | Date: 2003-11-20 17:49:27 UTC
Okay - I'm hooked! I've spent (way too many) hours reading about
letterboxing after stumbling upon a reference quite accidentally.
Now I'm eager to gather my materials and try my hand at carving a
personal stamp. Then I'll set off to find Jim Dillon's "Old
Hickory" which is only a few miles from my home. And then, I'll
plant my first - a "Louisiana Purchase" LB in honor of the
bicentennial of that gigantic real estate deal.

First question: What is the average size for a personal stamp? I'm
thinking that too small will be beyond my carving capabilities and
too large may not fit on small logbooks. What size is "just
right"? Thanks.

Denise, I'm just outside Baton Rouge. I hope to place a box before
the end of 2003, but it may be after the first of the year before I
can get to it with all the holiday stuff going on. The box will
likely go in or around BR.

There is one in Jackson, LA - just about 20 miles from Baton Rouge.
That's where I'm heading first, as soon as I can carve a sig stamp.
Let me know when you will be in the area - we can meet up.

Be sure to look for the GEAUX TIGERS box planted in October!! It is right in your back yard.

Thanks, Mama Bear. I'm not aware of that one - where do I find the
clues?

Glad to see a little more activity in Louisiana! I think I might be
putting a box in the Hammond area in the not to distant future.

My personal stamp is carved on an eraser and is about one inch high.
It was one of my firstr carving attempts. It is supposed to be an
alien head. I am not sure if that is how it looks though.
